Narcissistic Baby Names?
Neither Milk Nor Honey: Divorce & Custody in the State of Israel
For anyone involved with narcissism, this is a must read. Whatever you think you know will be explored in words that grab you and shake you and implore you to listen and learn. This is the most raw and powerful book on the impact of abuse and narcissism on a family that I have read. It takes place in Israel, to an American woman and her daughter and if you don’t read this you will never understand how much pathology can change neural pathways and how resilience can regrow them back to normal. Ema is an amazing writer with a gift of anger, rage, insight and how to make a life work in spite of it all.

I have been in a mentally abusive relationship with a man for 9 years. It started out just ever so often 3 or 4 times a year, it has now grown to every 6 weeks, now this time it has been 4 months.
I thought we were dealing with Bi-Polar or Manic depression. My counseler seems to think he is narcissistic. He gets mad at the drop of a hat if I say or do the wrong thing and instead of just saying that’s not right, it escalates and then starts belittling me, calling me names, taking in kind of pride I have and beating it into the ground. He makes me cry and beg for him to stop and it gets worse. He then turns on my family, kids and friends. It will be so bad I will miss the next day of work, due to the trauma. We are split up as of now and it continues, he draws me back to hurt me and demands I leave, hides his auto in the garage, so I will think he is on a date with someone else, tells me he will find someone he can love. I spoke with his ex-wife, she went through the exact same thing for 15 years. He also treats his parents this way. He is a nice looking, very wealthy man that has a lot going for him. He can be the most precious and kind person in the world, once he just wakes up one morning and realizes what he has done and crys and apologizes.
From your description it is hard to find much that he has going from him. I would worry less about labeling his disorder than about the impact he has on you and your well-being. He has damaged multiple facets of your life including family and livelihood. If this were a medical disease you would be seeking an antidote. There is no difference here. Staying away from him is the antidote to his abuse and destruction. Good for you for not being with him and try to continue doing so. The more time away the stronger you get and able to keep away. Best, Ann
